Clearing waterways & creating habitats

20160313_114322 2A lovely spring morning and our cubs and scouts have been back on Norton Common today helping with the conservation work. They have been cutting up fallen trees, clearing scrub and clearing the waterways of debris. The dead wood has been put into piles away from the paths to create safe habitats for a variety of wildlife and there were already birds moving in before we left the site. We hope to  be back to help the Friends of Norton Common again in the autumn once the birds have finished nesting. More photos on the link on the photos page.

On Sunday the 13th of March I did some conservation work over Norton Common. We cut down a giant tree and pulled rocks and logs out of the river. We also had a tea break where we got hot chocolate and biscuits. It was hard work but fun. Doing this is good because it keeps it the common nice for people to use, encourages plants to grow and it makes a home for wildlife.
