Fundraising on Letchworth Greenway Walk 2015

20150517_125252 (1280x720)Well done to everyone who took part in the Greenway Sponsored Walk today. We had a brilliant turnout from 8th Letchworth members both walking and in the refreshment tent. It was an amazing effort by all and a special well done to all those who walked. We’ll keep you updated on the total raised once all of the sponsor money is collected. There are photos of the walkers who made it as far as Wymondley Wood on the website.

Cubs Sixers & Seconders Weekend

At our sixers and seconders weekend I made loads of new friends. I had a fantastic time with all the activities. For Example; axes and saws, archery, shooting, fire lighting (it was yummy), bugs and rope guiding, cracker challenge, assault courses, partner work and lots of arts and crafts. On that last one we made scoobies! I can’t wait until my next camp!

Scouts Water Camp @ HYMB

Our scouts spent the weekend camping at Herts Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt. The camp was aimed at improving their water skills in preparation for the River Wye expedition in the summer. They brushed up their canoeing and sailing skills and all had a go at SUP boarding, something none of them had tried before. We all had a brilliant time and everyone tried really hard at the activities.  During the camp the scouts were also working on their Photography Badge. They had prepped during previous weeks and were able to take recordings with a camcorder ready for editing into films at scouts. They also took still photographs with both digital and 35mm cameras (thanks for the loan Rita) The still digital photographs can be seen in a separate album on this website, the prints will be displayed at the hut once developed.

The new trailer has arrived!

After a lot of hard work from you all fundraising, and a generous grant from the Civic Trust we have managed to replace our old trailer with a much larger new one which is big and strong enough to hold all of our camping equipment for our growing group! Well done to everyone who has helped with the fundraising and a massive thank you to the Civic Trust for their support. The trailer got it’s first outing of many this weekend on scout camp at Herts Young Mariners base.

County Cub Bushcraft Day

This Saturday I went to the Bushcraft at Harmergreen Woods. I met up with my friends and Akela. First we did tracking and plaster casts. After that we did cooking but I kept getting smoke in my eyes. Next we did firelighting, After we did square lashing that I found interesting because I didn’t know how to do it. Finally it was lunch and we were starving! When we were sitting in the tent it blew over us and we were laughing and screaming! Continue reading

Beaver Sleepover

My Sleepover Story

I had my first beaver sleepover and it was the best day ever.
We sang songs around the campfire, put tents up, had a story, made pandering, had pasta with chicken for tea. We all went for a night time walk with our torches in the woods and I was not scared.
I was on the top bunk in my room which was called silver wood, with William, Theo and Shaun. Continue reading

‘Two Directions’ smash 8L Green Beret record

This weekend saw 8th Letchworth Scouts Green Beret team ‘Two Directions‘ smash our previous results in the County Competition. A record 157 teams took part, 131 completed, and our team of six scouts came an impressive 27th overall. The scouts camped all weekend in challenging conditions – rain, mud, fog and ice. On Saturday they competed on day bases and night bases as well as the compulsory assault course and orienteering elements. There are some photos now on the website but as leaders are not admitted to the competition area these are limited. Well done to them all, teamwork was excellent, they did their absolute best and pushed themselves to the max – a brilliant result
