8th Letchworth Cubs on the County Cub Night Hike
A great night out for our three teams from 8th Cubs. We started from Hemel Hempstead and after a quick meal we were off. Luckily for us it was dry even thought the rest of the county had storms! The cubs took part in incident bases along the route which included Morse Code, Spacehoppers, First Aid, the Car Game, a french Burger Stop plus loads more. After hiking for 8 or so miles we arrived back at the base where we all had hot chocolate and biscuits then crashed out and had a bit of sleep. In the morning there was breakfast and presentations fbefore the parents arrived to pick everyone up. A brilliant night. Photos of the three teams are on the website. Well Done to all of you!

The Journey
As we arrived at the scout hut, there was a buzz of excitement in the air. The parents took one last photo then, we boarded the mini bus. After two hours of eating sweets and chatting, we arrived at our first stop, THE SERVICES! Half an hour later we were off again for the next leg of the journey. Finally, lunch had arrived and we all tucked down for a feast. Another two hours and thirty minutes and we were there. We all ran inside and started unpacking. The week has started! Continue reading
Young Leader Belts Awarded to two of 8th YL’s
Tonight was a very proud moment for us all at 8th Letchworth. Two of our young people, who have been through Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with us, then returned to our Cub Section as Young Leaders were awarded their Young Leader Belts by Chris King. As well as helping every week and on plenty of weekends with the cubs, they have also had to complete training modules and assessments in their own time. This is a fantastic achievement and they are the first in Letchworth and Baldock District to do this. Congratulations and Well Done from all of us at 8th Letchworth.

Beavers District Day Out to Tolmers
25 Beavers, 3 Leaders, 4 parents, 1 Young Leader and 2 Duke of Edinburgh placement students all went on the District Beaver Day Out to Tolmers County Beaver Fun Day.
It was very busy when we arrived so after the opening ceremony we decided to split into 3 groups to ensure that all the Beavers got to go on as many things as possible without having to wait too long. We all met back up for lunch together. Continue reading
What summer is made for……………
A weekend relaxing around the fire with friends, backwoods cooking and bivvying in the woods. It was the longest day of the year and scouts went to sleep and woke up with the sun and the dawn chorus. (Leaders were woken bright and early just after dawn by a game of frisbee taking place in the clearing!) Jack was presented with his Chief Scout Gold Award, scouts completed parts of their Outdoor and Outdoor Plus Challenge Awards and everything ended in the best possible way with dry equipment (always a bonus) Harmergreen is probably the best scout campsite in our county (in our opinions) and gives the scouts an opportunity to get completely back to basics in a beautiful location, away from the larger, commercial sites. Photos have been uploaded.
Cub & Beaver Camp @ Tolmers
What I liked about Tolmers – I liked the water wars and the rope-a-phobia. I also liked the coconut climb. It was fun when we did the bouncy slide and the bouncy mountain. I Liked the bacon, chicken, pasta and peas. I liked when the beavers came. I like sleeping in tents. I liked the big field. I liked the bouncy thing that you have to go in and slide out over the end. I felt happy and excited to do more activities. Alisha ps can we go again?
Scouts Expedition Challenge
A group of scouts left Wallington on Saturday morning and hiked through the wind, rain and finally sunshine to reach Wymondley. At Wymondley the camped overnight before moving off again in the morning and hiking back to 8th Letchworth Scout Hut. We invested two of our new members on the way, Lesley and Georgia both found their first geocaches and thanks to Mike’s blowtorch the scouts managed to cook tortillas and melted cheese around a campfire in the evening. Well done to everyone. Photos are on the website.
Greenway Walk 2014
A massive WELL DONE to all of our beavers, cubs and scouts & parents who took part in the Greenway Walk today and to all the leaders and young leaders who walked with them or helped with the refreshment tent at the Wymondley Wood checkpoint. It was a hot day and a tough 14 miles but an amazing effort from everyone. Mike is busy counting the money raised in the refreshment tent and Teresa will be collecting the walkers sponsor money. When it’s all in we’ll let you know the Grand Total going into our activity funds for your next camps and days out. Photos have been uploaded.
